I have the Songbird and Sweets and I think it is a great little package! To me it is better than the other pets because you get two items instead of just one. People say you can really play with the bird but I don't think that is true because just like with a real bird, you can watch it swing on its perch (gently rock mini-cage side to side), pretend to feed it (buy some bird seed and glue to a tiny button), and research/listen to bird calls or whistles. The story that goes with it "Happy Birthday, Addy" is very good because Addy learns that there is more than one way to "see" and also more than one way to be "free" (subject matter deals with a physically disabled/blind friend and segregation in Philadelphia). I found a pretty lace doily and used it as a bird cage cover to help Sunny know this it is night-time. Then I hung it up in Addy's "room" (the underneath of my Queen Anne secretary desk), but you could place it on anything you like. The benne candy tin is very feminine and culturally accurate (sesame seeds came from Africa with the slaves), you can even find sesame candy today (it tastes a little like peanut brittle). It is definitely worth the price to me, but ebay usually has some for sale every now and then.
